Seasonal Celebration: The Quickening

  • 555 Stevens Ave Portland, ME, 04101 (map)

Meet us in Baxter Woods (rendezvous at the Stevens Ave kiosk) for the first of our four 2019 Seasonal Celebrations. We'll offer this celebration two times during the day on February 1st: 10am & 5pm. (Come to whichever time works best for you.. or both!)

February 1st is Midwinter; the halfway point between winter and spring. It's commonly known as Groundhog Day, Candlemas, and Saint Brigid's Day; a much older Gaelic word for it is Imbolc. It marks that thrilling moment when the light changes just enough to signal that spring is on its way. When we gather in Baxter Woods, we will recognize it as The Quickening.

In 2019, Renewal in the Wilderness is partnering with ceremonialist Circe Moss MacDonald ( to offer 4 seasonal celebrations throughout the year. Gathering together to honor the cross-quarters, we will bring awareness and gratitude to the shifting energy and light within the Earth’s cycles and in our own lives. Each Seasonal Celebration will include community gathering, walking, reflection and refreshments.
