This trip is a 2-day, 1 night backpacking loop trip in the Bigelow Preserve and Flagstaff Lake Public Lands of Maine. We will take the Fire Warden’s Trail approximately 4 miles up to Avery Peak and camp at 4,000 feet with views of the surrounding lakes and mountains. That evening we will enjoy beautiful sunset views. On Saturday morning, we will wake up on the Appalachian Trail and hike 7 miles of the back portion of the loop on the AT down to the parking area on Stratton Brook Pond Road. Previous backpacking experience isn’t necessary, but it is important that participants be in good condition to navigate the terrain and elevation gains while carrying personal and group gear.
