Overview of Community Events
We lead wilderness retreats to places in Maine and beyond that anyone may enroll in. Additionally, we hold events that are meant to grow wilderness community, build social ties, and connect us to nature. Join one of our Community Trips, Beauty Walks and Paddles, Wellness Hikes for care providers, or engaging community Events! Scroll down to see our Calendar of Events.
Our Community Trips are wilderness immersions for individuals who resonate with our mission. These are folks who are actively trying to make the world a more beautiful place and who sometimes get worn out by their efforts. We offer a dose of solitude within community and solidarity in a backcountry context.
From story telling events to camp outs that are free and open to the public, to gatherings in local breweries, Renewal in the Wilderness seeks to grow attachment to each other in community and nature.
We also post recent articles related to the benefits of nature, wilderness engagement, and other social environmental issues like environmental justice regularly on our Facebook page to keep our community engaged and talking on issues at the intersection of wilderness and social justice.
Beauty Walks and Paddles
We guide Beauty Walks most weeks near our home base in Portland Maine and monthly summer paddles. These walks and paddles are for people trying to make the world a more beautiful place, and who sometimes get worn out by their efforts. These Walks help provide restorative inspiration, to help us continue to be compassionate in a changing world.
We meet at a variety of natural locations to walk, reflect, play, and converse. Join us as we gather together for a bit of solidarity and renewal.
One component of our "Wellness for Portland Communities of Care" Program are Wellness Hikes. Wellness Hikes are community hikes focused on personal resiliency in your professional work life. Each Wednesday from June-October, we will hike at either 12pm or 6:30pm and discuss our vocation. These hikes are open to any care providers, broadly defined, such as health care workers, social service providers, first responders, teachers, or faith community leaders. If you consider yourself a care provider, please join us!
Please see the calendar below for the locations/times of our scheduled Wednesday Wellness Hikes.
